해설문

국문

측백나무는 높이가 25m, 지름이 1m까지 이르고, 작은 가지가 수직으로 벌어진다. 잎은 비늘같이 생기고 마주나며 좌우의 잎과 가운데 달린 잎의 크기가 비슷하게 생겼기 때문에 세 잎이 W자 모양이 된다. 4월에 꽃이 피고 호박이나 오이처럼 암꽃과 수꽃이 하나의 가지에 달린다.

안동 구리에 있는 측백나무 숲은 대략 100년~200년 이상 된 것으로 추정하며 300그루 정도가 숲을 이루고 있다. 안동에서 대구로 가는 국도의 절벽에 자리 잡고 있으며 앞에는 낙동강이 흐른다. 특이한 것은 보통 측백나무는 크기가 25m까지도 성장하는데 이 지역 측백나무는 크기가 20cm~70cm밖에 되지 않는다. 바위틈에서 자라기 때문에 나무의 크기가 작다.

안동 구리 측백나무 자생지는 우리나라에서도 매우 보기 드문 측백나무 자생지로서, 식물 분포학적 가치가 높아 1975년 9월 22일 천연기념물 제252호로 지정하여 보호하고 있다.

영문 해설 내용

측백나무는 구과목의 측백나무과의 상록교목이다. 비늘 모양의 잎이 뾰족하다.
