국문
구(舊) 녹동우편소는 일제강점기 1927년 지은 일본식 건물이다. 구 녹동우편소는 일본식 목조 형식으로 창살, 문살, 창틀, 담벼락 등의 세부에 이르기까지 잘 보존되어 있다. 측면에서 주거 공간으로 들어가는 주거형식은 편복도 형식(ㄴ자형)으로 일본식 주거의 특징을 그대로 보여주고 있다. 이 건물은 내부 공간에서는 우편소 용도의 공간과 가정생활을 위한 주거공간이 함께 구성된 독특한 구조이다.
1920년대 도양읍은 쌀과 해산물이 풍부하였고, 녹동에서 가까운 금산면은 해태로 유명하였고, 인근 소록도에는 자혜병원이 있어 환자까지 수용함으로 여객의 내왕이 빈번하였다. 녹동항은 목포, 부산, 완도, 여수, 통영 방면에 통하는 배도 있어 오가는 사람과 특산물의 물량이 많았다. 번화한 녹동항에 있는 구 녹동우편소에서는 1930년대 금융업무, 통신업무까지 보았다.
