Cultivating Barnyard Grass (Including Gangjik)

Low and wet lands are appropriate for barnyard grass.

The soil (should be) plowed in the second week of the second month and well-prepared with a 'mokchak'. ITs common name is soheulla.

It is possible to sow any time from the first week of the third month to the first week of the fourth month. The sowing method is the same as that of proso/foxtail millet. Alternatively, scattering the seeds is also fine.

If the fields are barren, use bunhoe. (This is an abbreviation for) aged manure and urinated ash. (This abbreviation will be used) in the following sections, as well. Alternatively, first spread chopped weeds between the ridges prior to plowing and sowing.

Hoeing (should be done) at least twice.

Barnyard grass, as well, has a late-planting quick-ripening variety. Its common name is gangjik. (This late-planting quick-ripening variety) can be sown at the latest in the first week of the sixth month when double cropping with barley.
