Barnyard grass is well-suited for low and wet lands. The soil (should be) plowed in the second ten days of the second (lunar) month and well-prepared with a mokchak known as soheulla. It is possible to sow any time from the first ten days of the third month to the first ten days of the fourth month. The sowing method is the same as that of proso and foxtail millet. Alternatively, scattering the seeds is also fine. If the fields are barren, use bunhoe (abbreviation for) aged manure and urinated ash. (This abbreviation will be used) in the following sections, as well, or alternatively, first spread chopped weeds between the ridges prior to plowing and sowing. Hoeing (should be done) at least twice.
Barnyard grass, too, has a late-planting quick-ripening variety known as gangjik. (This late-planting quick-ripening variety) can be sown at the latest in the first ten days of the sixth month when double cropping with barley.
