강연자 소개

Jie-ae Sohn is currently an invited professor at the Graduate School of International Studies at Ewha Womans University. Prior to her appointment at Ewha, she served as the President of the Korea International Broadcasting Foundation (Arirang TV & Radio) from, 2011 to February 2014. The government-sponsored broadcasting station is available in 188 countries and has the goal of spreading the positive image of Korea around the world.

Ms. Sohn started her career by writing about the Korean economy for the monthly magazine Business Korea. She then went on to work for The New York Times as a Seoul-based reporter from 1992 to 1994. From 1995 to 2009, she worked as CNN’s bureau chief and correspondent based in Seoul, Korea. She provided continuous coverage of both South and North Korea for CNN.

She served as the spokesperson of the Presidential Committee for the Seoul G20 Summit in 2010, and was the Presidential Secretary of the Office of overseas public relations at the executive office of the President for former South Korean President Lee Myung-Bak from 2010 to 2011.

Ms. Sohn was selected to be the CEO of Korea’s only English-language TV channel in 2011, becoming the first female head of a major broadcasting company in Korea. While serving as CEO, she was selected as one of the “32 Most Powerful Women in Asian Media” by the Singapore magazine Content Asia.

Ms. Sohn, born in Seoul, holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science & International Relations from Ewha Womans University and a Master’s Degree from Yonsei University Graduate School for Journalism and Mass Communication. She is married with three daughters.
