옥호루

Definition

곤녕합에 부속된 건물로서 장안당의 추수부용루와 같은 누각의 이름이다. 을미사변 때 명성황후가 궁중에 난입한 일본 낭인들에게 비참하게 살해된 장소로 알려져 있다. 일제는 한국 근대사의 비극을 간직한 옥호루를 1909년 경복궁 안에 있던 수많은 건물을 파괴할 때 헐어버렸다. 2006년 건청궁 일대를 복원하면서 함께 복원되었다.
