승순당 현판

Definition

‘승순(承順)’은 ‘받들어 순종한다’는 뜻이다. 부인에게 곤괘의 특성인 유순함을 받든다는 덕성을 장려한다는 의미에서 이와 같이 작명한 것으로 보인다. 『주역』의 곤괘에 대해 「단전」에서는 “암말은 땅의 부류이니, 땅을 걸어감이 끝이 없으며 유순하고 이정(利貞)함이 군자(君子)의 행하는 바이다.”라고 했다. 『정전』과 『본의』에서는 이 유순함과 이정함을 곤의 덕성[坤德]으로 이해했다.
