태호석

Definition

태호석(太湖石)은 중국 강소성과 절강성의 경계에 있는 호수인 태호(太湖)와 호남성에 있는 동정호(洞庭湖) 일대에서 나오는 수석이다. 석회질로 되어 있고, 다양한 모양과 무늬가 있다. 당(唐)나라 때부터 유명해졌고 명(明)나라 때에는 가짜가 유통될 정도로 많은 수석 애호가들이 태호석 수집을 선호했으며, 가산(假山)을 만들 때도 많이 사용된다.
