Researcher Info Kim Ji-myung
Kim Ji-myung (joannekim@aks.ac.kr) is an independent researcher, participating in projects of the Digital Humanities Department of the Academy of Korean Studies. She got her Ph.D in 2018 with her dissertation “Developing a Digital Archive and Curation Model for Historical Documents: Focusing on the National Debt Redemption Movement in Korea.” She is a communication specialist by training, with a background in English Literature (BA at Yonsei University) and Journalism (MS at the Seoul National University). She worked as reporter for the Korea Times, and lectured on editorial strategy at the Journalism Department, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies. Since 2009, she has been president of the Korea Heritage Education Institute (http://heritagekorea.org/index.php/Korea_Heritage_Education_Institute_(English) (heritagekorea21@gmail.com), a government-endorsed research organization for effective communication and education of knowledge on history and culture in and outside Korea. She carried out many research projects on the contents of knowledge and information provided on-site at heritage sites and also via different tools including digital devices and internet. Research projects also include enhancing significance of cultural heritages through digitalized presentation including the use of 3D technology, curating the interpretation texts both in Korean and in foreign languages. Another area of research is designing a new communication system in which digital resources are best utilized via links to encyclopedia and archives. She conducted research of all interpretation texts of government-managed historic sites in Korea in 2014 by analyzing the use of terminology, expressions, delivery and translation into foreign languages.
