해설문
국문
지산동 73호분과 74호분은 이웃하고 있으며, 2007년부터 2008년까지 이루어진 발굴조사에서 확인되었다.
73호분은 지산동고분군 ‘최초의 왕릉’으로 5세기 전반에 만들어진 것으로 추정된다. 봉분의 지름은 21~23m이며 지산동고분군에서 발굴된 것 중 유일한 구덩식 나무덧널무덤*이다. 전체 구조는 하나의 무덤구덩이 안에 으뜸돌덧널과 딸린돌덧널을 T자 모양으로 배치하고 덧널 주위에 깬돌을 채워 쌓은 모습이다. 서·남·북쪽에는 순장덧널을 두었으며, 약 11명이 순장*된 것으로 추측된다.
무덤에서 나온 유물은 봉황무늬고리자루큰칼, 유리 목걸이, 새깃털 모양의 금동관 꾸미개, 토기류 등이 있다. 특히 73호분에서 나온 여러 종류의 직물은 대가야 의복 연구의 기초자료로 사용하고 있다.
74호분은 5세기 중반에 만들어진 구덩식 돌덧널무덤*으로 봉분 지름이 10~11m이며 으뜸돌덧널과 딸린돌덧널이 T자 모양으로 배치되어 있고, 으뜸돌덧널의 양쪽에 2기의 순장덧널이 설치되어 있다. 총 4명이 순장된 것으로 추측되며, 유물로는 비늘갑옷조각, 관못, 꺾쇠, 토기류 등이 나왔다.
- 구덩식 나무덧널무덤 : 무덤구덩이를 파고 상자모양의 나무덧널을 만들어 그 안에 1기 또는 2기의 나무널을 놓은 다음 흙을 덮어 봉토를 올리는 구조.
- 순장(殉葬) : 왕이나 귀족이 죽었을 때, 살아 있는 신하나 종을 함께 묻던 일. 또는 그런장례법.
- 구덩식 돌덧널무덤 : 무덤구덩이를 파고 깬돌을 쌓아서 4개의 벽을 만든 후 죽은 사람을 넣고 그 윗부분을 덮개돌로 덮은 무덤.

This tomb is a large stone-lined pit tomb dating to around the 6th century. It was excavated in 1977.
The tomb consists of a main chamber and auxiliary chamber aligned parallel to one another. Surrounding these two chambers are 11 chambers for human sacrifices. In the main chamber, the remains of two human sacrifices were found, while in the auxiliary chamber and the human sacrifice chambers there was one person each.
Excavated artifacts include earrings and necklaces made from various materials, small decorations made of gold, shards of a bronze mirror, scaled armor, a large sword with ring pommel with trefoil design, a metal spear, metal arrowheads, horse-riding accessories, and pottery.
