해설문
국문
신식 교육 실시와 선교의 목적으로 1892년에 설립된 영화초등학교의 본관동 건물은 1910년에 착공하여 1911년에 완공하였다. 반지하 1층과 지상 3층으로 구성된 맞배지붕 구조의 건물로 재래식 붉은 벽돌로 지어졌다. 현관 부분은 돌출되어 ‘십(十)’ 자 형태를 띠고 있었으나 1954년 건물 입구 쪽의 돌출 부분을 증축하여 현재는 그 흔적만 남아 있다. 증축된 부분들을 제외하고는 원형 그대로 잘 보존되어 있다.

Former Main Building of Younghwa Elementary School
Younghwa Elementary School was established in 1892 by Margaret Jones (1869-1962), the wife of American pastor George H. Jones (1867-1919), as Incheon’s first Western-style primary educational institution. The school first opened in a small room at Naeri Methodist Church to provide modern education and spread Christianity.
In 1911, this brick building was constructed to be used the main building of this school to accommodate the growing number of students. It has three above-ground floors and one semi-basement floor. In 1954, the front of the building was extended, and the appearance of the main entrance consequently changed. In 2000, a new building was built right next to the former main building.
