해설문

국문

조선 후기 영평군에 부임해서 선정을 베풀었던 역대 군수의 공적을 기리기 위해 세운 비이다.

이곳은 원래 영평현 관아터로 추정되며, 영평의 진입로변 등에 흩어져 있던 총 5기의 선정비를 이곳으로 옮겨와 정비하였다. 이지백 선정비는 “성주이공지백 청간선정비(城主李公知白淸簡善政碑)”라 새겨져 있다. 맑고 간단하여 맑은 물을 대하듯 하고 정해진 그 길대로 실천하였다는 뜻을 나타냈다. 현종 2년(1661) 9월에 세웠다. “행군수이공제원 영세불망비(行郡守李公濟元永世不忘碑)”는 영세토록 잊지 못할 것이라는 뜻을 나타냈으며, 고종 13년(1876) 5월에 세웠다. “관찰사김공굉집 영세불망비(觀察使金公宏集永世不忘碑)”는 고종 21년(1884) 4월 재임 중에 세웠으나, 현재 비신만 남아있으며, 뒷면은 마모가 심하다. 김굉집은 개화파 김홍집(金弘集)의 초명이다. “행군수현공흥택 영세불망비(行郡守玄公興澤永世不忘碑)”는 고종 26년(1889) 8월에 세웠다. 비신만 남아있으며, 오른쪽 하단의 모서리 부분이 깨져나갔다. “행군수홍후태윤 애민선정비(行郡守洪侯泰潤愛民善政碑)”는 1919년 4월에 세웠으며, 백성을 사랑하였다는 뜻을 나타냈다.

Steles of Local Magistrates in Yeongpyeong-ri

These five steles commemorate the benevolent rule of local magistrates who served in the Yeongpyeong area during the Joseon period (1392-1910) and the Japanese colonial period (1910-1945).

The steles were originally located along the main road leading to Yeongpyeong and were gathered in this place, which is presumed to be the former site of the local government office during the Joseon period. The years in which the steles were erected and the writing on the front of steles are as follows:

• 1661, Stele of Local Magistrate Lord Yi Ji-baek, who lived righteously and governed justly.
• 1876, Stele of Local Magistrate Lord Yi Je-won, whose virtue shall never be forgotten.
• 1884, Stele of Local Magistrate Lord Kim Goeng-jip, whose virtue shall never be forgotten.
• 1889, Stele of Local Magistrate Lord Hyeon Heung-taek, whose virtue shall never be forgotten.
• 1919, Stele of Local Magistrate Sir Hong Tae-yun, who loved the people and governed justly.
