Cheongnyeongpo Meandering Stream is where King Danjong (1441-1457, r. 1452-1455), the 6th king of the Joseon dynasty (1392-1910), lived when being exiled. He was exiled to Yeongwol in 1457 after King Sejo (r. 1455-1468) usurped the throne from his nephew King Danjong. Cheongnyeongpo Meandering Stream looks like an island as there is a rough rock to the west and the remaing three sides are surrounded by a river. After this, in fear of a flood, King Danjong immediately moved his house to Gwanpungheon Hall, a guesthouse in Yeongwol, and passed away only four months after being exiled.

After King Danjong was restored in 1698, efforts retained to preserve the place where he lived. In 1726, a no-trespassing(?) stele was erected at Cheongnyeongpo Meandering Stream, so that average people couldn't access. In 1763, the king bestowed a calligraphy of the inscription "Former Site of When King Danjong Inhabited Yeongwol-bu" and at the dwelling site where King Danjong once lived, a stele with a commemorative pavilion was erected.

The tiled-roof house with a hip-and-gable roof and the annex thatched-roof house buildings in today's Cheongnyeongpo Meandering Stream were rebuilt in 2000 to represent the house where King Danjong lived. The pine forest within these premises, including Gwaneumsong Pine Tree (Natural Monument), creates an excellent landscape.
