국문

동강에 있는 어라연 지역은 하천 지형이 다양하게 나타난다. 감입곡류*, 수직 절벽과 협곡, 옛 물길, 소, 여울, 급류 등 지형·하천 경관이 우수하고 다양한 식물이 자라고 있으며, 정선아리랑 등 문화적 요소가 어우러져 천혜의 아름다움을 갖추고 있다.

강바닥에는 달뿌리풀과 엉겅퀴, 갈대, 패랭이, 쇠별꽃 등이 분포하고 강변에는 원추리, 홑왕원추리, 덩굴딸기가 대군락을 이루며, 갯버들, 키버들, 왕버들, 시무나무와 비술나무가 떼를 지어 자란다. 산에는 소나무가 많으며 암벽에는 돌단풍, 부처손 등이 있으며, 특히 회양목 군락, 비술나무, 시무나무는 학술적 가치가 있다. 또한 어름치, 수달, 황조롱이, 원앙 등 천연기념물과 비오리 등 야생동물이 집단 서식하고 있어 명승으로서 가치를 더해 준다.

Eorayeon Meandering Stream and Surroundings, Yeongwol

Eorayeon Meandering Stream is a well-known scenic area of the Donggang River that combines various types of river landforms. The area is home to diverse plant life and its outstanding landscape composes such features of river geology as an incised meander, vertical cliff, gorge, oxbow lake(?), swamp, rapid, and a rapid torrent.

The riverbed vegetation includes native species of reed (Phragmites japonicus) and thistle (Cirsium japonicum var. maackii), common reed, rainbow pinks, and water chickweed. The river banks have large populations of daylilies, orange daylilies, and the shrub species Rubus pungens var. oldhamii, as well as small groups of trees, namely, rose-gold pussy willow, native willow species Salix koriyanagi, red leaf willow, David Hemiptelea, and dwarf elm. The surrounding mountains are predominantly covered with pines featuring some mukdenia and spikemoss growing on the rocky parts. Among these, the populations of Korean boxwood, dwarf elms, and David Hemiptelea hold academic value. The area is also an important habitat for various animals including common mergansers and the Natural Monument species such as spotted barbels, Eurasian otters, common kestrels, and Mandarin ducks.
