국문
동강에 있는 어라연 지역은 하천 지형이 다양하게 나타난다. 감입곡류*, 수직 절벽과 협곡, 옛 물길, 소, 여울, 급류 등 지형·하천 경관이 우수하고 다양한 식물이 자라고 있으며, 정선아리랑 등 문화적 요소가 어우러져 천혜의 아름다움을 갖추고 있다.
강바닥에는 달뿌리풀과 엉겅퀴, 갈대, 패랭이, 쇠별꽃 등이 분포하고 강변에는 원추리, 홑왕원추리, 덩굴딸기가 대군락을 이루며, 갯버들, 키버들, 왕버들, 시무나무와 비술나무가 떼를 지어 자란다. 산에는 소나무가 많으며 암벽에는 돌단풍, 부처손 등이 있으며, 특히 회양목 군락, 비술나무, 시무나무는 학술적 가치가 있다. 또한 어름치, 수달, 황조롱이, 원앙 등 천연기념물과 비오리 등 야생동물이 집단 서식하고 있어 명승으로서 가치를 더해 준다.

Eorayeon Meandering Stream and Surroundings, Yeongwol
Eorayeon Meandering Stream is a well-known scenic site along the Donggang River in Yeongwol. Its outstanding landscape comprises diverse features of river geology, such as an incised meander, vertical cliffs, gorges, an oxbow lake, a swamp, rapids, and a rapid torrent.
The area is also renowned for its diverse plant life. The riverbed vegetation includes runner reed and Korean thistle, common reed, rainbow pinks, and giant chickweed. The river banks have large populations of daylilies, orange daylilies, and Korean creeping raspberry, as well as small groups of trees, namely rose-gold pussy willow, winnow willow, giant pussy willow, Hemiptelea, and Siberian elm. The surrounding mountains are predominantly covered with Korean red pines, with some maple-lead mukdenia and tree spikemoss growing on the rocky parts. Among these, the populations of Korean boxwood, Siberian elm, and Hemiptelea are of great academic value.
The site also serves as an important habitat for various animal species, such as the Korea spotted barbel, the Eurasian otter, the common kestrel, and the Mandarin duck, which are all designated as Natural Monuments, as well as the common merganser.
