국문
고려 초기에 조성된 것으로 보이는 이 돌항아리는 네모난 화강석을 정교하게 다듬어 항아리처럼 만든 것이다. 법주사에도 이와 비슷한 것이 있는데, 용도는 자세히 알 수 없다. 풍수지리로 볼 때 화엄사는 전체적인 형국이 항해하는 배의 모양을 닮아 있어 항해 중에 필요한 물을 담는 항아리를 조성했다는 기록이 전해진다.
