봉암신성 신축 비는 조선 숙종 12년(1686) 수어사 윤지선*의 감독 아래 윤달 4월 1일부터 같은 해 5월 9일까지 봉암성을 쌓은 사실을 기록하고 있다.

비문은 자연석 위에 해서체로 음각되어 있으며, 판독 가능한 49자 외에 마모가 심하여 알아보기 힘든 글자가 많다. 한자로 적힌‘成俊, 石之完, 奉世’등은 축성에 동원된 장인(匠人)의 이름으로 추정된다.

Monument of the Construction of Bongamseong Fortress (Namhansanseong Fortress)

This stone monument records the details of the construction of Bongamseong Fortress, the northeastern auxiliary wall of Namhansanseong Fortress. Overseen by the defense commander Yun Ji-seon (1627-1704), the construction took place in 1686 from the first day of the leap fourth lunar month to the ninth day of the fifth lunar month.

The monument’s text, composed in classical Chinese, is inscribed in regular script using the intaglio technique. Due to the weathering of the monument’s surface, only 49 characters remain legible. It is presumed that the text also includes the names of the artisans who participated in the fortress’s construction.

이 비석은 남한산성의 북동쪽 외성인 봉암성을 쌓은 사실을 기록하고 있다. 봉암성은 1686년 수어사 윤지선(1627-1704)의 감독 아래 윤달 4월 1일부터 같은 해 5월 9일까지 축성되었다.

한문으로 쓴 비문은 자연석 위에 해서체로 음각되어 있으며, 마모가 심하여 49자만 판독이 가능하다. 축성에 동원된 장인의 이름들도 함께 새겨져 있는 것으로 추정된다.
