This is known to be the tomb of King Ilseong (r. 134-154), the 7th ruler of the Silla dynasty (57 BCE–935 CE).
King Ilseong was a member of the Park Clan. According to various records, he was either the son of King Yuri (r. 24-57) or King Jima (r. 112-134). He established the Hall of State Affairs (Jeongsadang) where he could manage important national matters with his ministers. He promoted agriculture by expanding arable land and creating levees.
The tomb is close to the well which is said to have been the birthplace of Silla’s founding king, Park Hyeokgeose. There are natural stones around the base of the tomb mound. There is a tombstone in front of the tomb which was erected in 1871.
