국문

효자 임옥산은 조선 초기 무신으로 군기시(軍器寺) 재직 중 모친의 병환 소식에 사직서를 제출하였다. 그러나 귀향 도중에 모친의 부음 소식을 듣게 되었고 주자가례를 따라 정성스럽게 3년상을 치렀다. 전라감사가 이 일을 조정에 올려 1471년(성종 2) 포상을 받게 되었다. 임옥산은 1491년(성종 22) 부친상도 극진히 치렀으며, 1502년(연산군 8) 사망하자 조정에서는 예관(禮官)을 보내 치제(致祭)하고 정려(旌閭)를 내렸다고 한다. 이 정려각은 오랜 역사와 함께 조선시대 유교 정책과 문중활동을 잘 보여주고 있어 가치가 높다.

영문

This commemorative pavilion was built for Im Ok-san (1432-1502), a military official of the early Joseon period, to honor his filial devotion. When he served in the Royal Armory, he submitted his resignation at the news of his mother’s illness. However, his mother died while he was on the way to his hometown, and he completed the mourning period with sincerity. The governor of Jeolla-do Province reported Im’s filial deeds to the royal court, and Im was rewarded in 1471. After his father’s death in 1491, he also saw to his father’s funeral and mourning period with utmost care. When he died in 1502, the royal court sent a special official to preside at his funeral and granted permission for his deeds to be commemorated.
