충청감영은 조선 시대 8도 가운데 하나인 충청도의 행정과 사법을 담당하던 관찰사가 근무하던 곳으로, 현재의 도청에 해당한다.

충청감영은 조선 태종 시기에 충주에 설치되었으며, 이곳에서 충청도의 모든 행정 업무가 처리되었다. 또한 왕의 명령을 수행하고 지역의 치안과 군사 임무를 담당했다. 이로써 충주는 조선 초에 충청도의 행정과 군사 중심지가 되었으나, 임진왜란이 끝난 뒤인 선조 35년(1602)에 충청감영이 공주로 이전되었다.

충청감영은 당시의 행정 체계와 군사적 중요성을 잘 보여 주는 역사적 장소이다.

Chungcheonggamyeong Provincial Office

Chungcheonggamyeong Provincial Office was the seat of the provincial governor, who oversaw the administration and judicial affairs of Chungcheong-do, one of the eight provinces of the Joseon dynasty (1392-1910). It is a historic site that illustrates the administrative system and military importance of the Joseon period.

The office was first established in Chungju during the reign of King Taejong (r. 1400-1418) and served as the center for all provincial affairs in Chungcheong-do. It carried out the king’s orders and managed regional security and military operations. As a result, Chungju became the administrative and military hub of Chungcheong-do in the early Joseon period. After the Japanese invasions of 1592-1598, however, the provincial office was relocated to Gongju in 1602.
