This fortress, known as Bumosanseong, or “Parents Mountain Fortress,” was first built during the Baekje period (18 BCE-660 CE). According to archeological surveys, people had lived in the area since the early Three Kingdoms period (57 BCE-668 CE), before the construction of this fortress, and Baekje and Silla (57 BCE-935 CE) had staged a war to gain control of the area. In the 14th century, this fortress, which has a spring within its walls, saved the local villagers from pillage by the invading Mongols. The spring is known as “Mother’s Breast Well.” The fortress wall is 1.1 km long and, on average, 6 m high and 6.4 m wide.
