천안 두정동 유적은 1999년 이 일대를 택지로 개발하는 과정에서 발굴·조사되었다. 유적은 노태산에서 동쪽으로 뻗어 내린 나지막한 구릉이지만 주변을 한눈에 조망할 수 있는 능선에 위치한다.
이 유적에는 백제시대 초기에 만들어진 집터와 저장 구덩이 등 여러 생활 유적과 다양한 형태의 무덤이 조사되었다. 생활 유적과 무덤 유적이 별도 구역으로 나누어져 있어 당시 사람들이 생활 공간과 사후 공간을 분리하여 사용했던 것을 알 수 있다. 현재 공원 내에는 분구묘*와 움무덤(토광묘), 독무덤(옹관묘), 집터가 보존되어 있다.
출토유물은 토기류, 철기류, 장신구류 등이 있다. 토기류는 바닥이 둥근 형태의 항아리가 가장 많이 출토되었고, 컵 모양 토기, 화로 모양 토기 등도 출토되었다. 철기류는 말을 다룰 때 필요한 재갈, 등자(발걸이) 등의 마구류와 무기류가 있으며. 장신구류는 금박옥, 굽은옥의 옥류가 출토되었다.
두정동 유적에서 나온 유구와 유물은 3~4세기 백제 시대의 문화 연구에 매우 귀중한 자료이며, 한성백제 · 영산강 유역 집단과의 관련성을 알려주는 중요한 유적이다. 두정동 유적은 현재 공원으로 보존하고 있으며, 백제 초기 천안지역의 생활 문화와 무덤 문화를 알 수 있어 문화사적 가치도 매우 크다.

Archaeological Site in Dujeong-dong, Cheonan
This archaeological site in Dujeong-dong comprises various structural remains, such as building sites, storage pits, and tombs, that date back to the 3rd-4th century during the Baekje period (18 BCE-660 CE). Located on a hill extending eastward from Notaesan Mountain, the site commands a panoramic view of the surrounding area. The area was excavated in 1999.
The site’s residential and burial remains were found to be located in separate areas, indicating that the local Baekje people distinguished between spaces for the living and the dead. Artifacts excavated from the site included: earthenware, primarily jars with round bases as well as cup-shaped and brazier-shaped vessels; metalware, including weaponry and horse harness equipment such as bits and stirrups; and accessories, namely gold leaf-covered jade and comma-shaped jade.
This archaeological site and its excavated artifacts shed light on the daily life and burial practices of people living in the Cheonan area during the early Baekje period. It thus provides valuable information for research on the culture of the Baekje kingdom. Having been preserved as a park, the site features an earthen burial mound, pit tombs, jar coffin tombs, and building sites.
