참봉댁은 입향조(入鄕組)*인 이사종의 12대손으로 참봉을 지낸 이중렬(李重烈, 1859~1891)과 그의 아들 이용후(李用厚, 1886~1955)의 집이다. 이중렬은 1891년 증광시에서 진사에 급제했다.

참봉댁은 이 마을에서 보기 드물게 ‘ㅡ’자 모양의 안채와 사랑채가 나란히 2열로 배열된 ‘二’자 집이다. 남서향으로 자리를 잡았으며, 약 6m 정도의 거리를 두고 안채와 사랑채가 있는데 앞면의 길이는 같지만 옆면의 폭이 서로 다르다.

Chambongdaek House

Chambongdaek House was the residence of the civil official Yi Jung-ryeol (1859-1891), a 12th-generation descendant of Yi Sa-jong, who was the first person of the Yean Yi clan to settle in this village. Yi Jung-ryeol passed the literary licentiate examination in 1891 and held office as a deputy attendant. It is from this post that the house gets its name Chambongdaek, which means “House of the Deputy Attendant.”

The house, which faces southwest, consists of a men’s quarters and a women’s quarters. Both buildings have a linear layout and stand parallel to each other roughly 6 m apart. This layout is uncommon among the houses in Oeam Village, which mostly consist of L-shaped buildings that together form a square layout with a courtyard in the middle.

영문 해설 내용

참봉댁은 예안이씨 중 외암마을에 처음으로 정착한 이사종의 12대손인 문신 이중렬(1859-1891)의 집이다. 이중렬은 1891년 진사시에 급제한 뒤 참봉을 지냈고, 이에 따라 이 집의 이름이 지어졌다.

남서향의 이 집은 사랑채와 안채로 이루어져 있다. 두 건물은 모두 ‘ㅡ’자 모양이고, 서로 약 6m 정도의 거리를 두고 앞뒤로 배치되어 있다. 이는 외암마을에서 보기 드문 구조인데, 대부분 ‘ㄱ’자 모양의 가옥 건물이 마당을 중심으로 ‘ㅁ’자 모양을 이루기 때문이다.
