해설문

국문

노기용 선생은 경남 합천 출신으로 1920년 송두환, 최윤동, 김종철, 정두희 등이 조직한 비밀결사에 가입하고 항일운동을 전개하였다.

1921년 경주, 합천 등지에서 군자금 수합 활동을 펼치는 한편 1923년 전북 정읍군에 소재한 보천교 본부를 습격, 3만원을 탈취하여 임시정부와 만주의 독립운동단체를 지원할 것을 계획하였다. 이를 위해 새로이 동지를 포섭하고 동년 7월 노원용과 함께 군자금 수합을 위해 서울로 향하던 중 일경에 붙잡혔다.

1924년 11월 6일 대구지방법원에서 징역 7년형을 선고받고 옥고를 치렀으며 국가보훈부는 고인의 공훈을 기리어 1963년 건국훈장 독립장을 추서하였다. 국가보훈부는 2002년 11월 이 비를 현충시설로 지정하였다.

Stele of No Gi-yong for His Righteous Patriotism

This stele was erected in 1980 to commemorate No Gi-yong (1897-1975), a Hapcheon native, for his righteous patriotism during the Japanese colonial period (1910-1945). It was designated as a Memorial Facility of the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs in 2002.

No Gi-yong became an active independence activist after participating in the March First Independence Movement in 1919. In 1920, he joined a secret anti-Japanese society, and in 1921, he became involved in fund raising in the Gyeongju and Hapcheon areas. However, he was caught by the Japanese police in July 1923 after devising a plan to steal money from the headquarters of a new religious movement known as Bocheonism in order to financially support the Korean provisional government and resistance movement in China. On November 6, 1924, he received a seven-year prison sentence. In 1963, No Gi-yong was bestowed with the Order of Merit for National Foundation by the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs in recognition of his loyal devotion to the country.

영문 해설 내용

이 비석은 합천 출신의 독립운동가인 노기용(1897-1975)을 기리기 위해 1980년에 세워졌다. 2002년 국가보훈부 현충시설로 지정되었다.

노기용은 1919년 3.1운동에 참여한 것을 계기로 독립운동에 적극적으로 가담하기 시작하였다. 1920년에는 비밀결사에 가입하여 항일운동을 전개하였고, 1921년에는 경주와 합천 등지에서 군자금 모금 활동을 펼쳤다. 1923년에는 보천교 본부에서 돈을 탈취하여 임시정부와 만주의 독립운동단체를 지원할 것을 계획하였으나, 같은해 7월 일경에 붙잡혔고 1924년 11월 6일 징역 7년형을 선고받았다. 국가보훈부는 노기용의 공훈을 기리어 1963년 건국훈장 독립장을 추서하였다.
