해설문

국문

은적사 석가여래삼존상은 석가여래불을 중심으로 문수보살과 협시보살이 양쪽에 위치해 있다.

1629년(인조7년) 수종(守宗) 화상이 제작한 석가여래삼존상은 당당한 어깨, 균형있는 동체, 안정감있는 무릎자세 등 불신의 비례가 적절하며 법의와 천의의 옷주름 표현이 뛰어나다.

본존인 석가여래불은 간소한 나무 대좌에 결가부좌한 채 항마촉지인을 맺고 있으며 나발(螺髮)의 머리에 육계가 낮게 표현되어 있다.

문수보살은 머리에 위쪽으로 벌어진 중국식 보관을 쓰고 팔에 꽃무늬 팔찌가 있다. 보관의 윗부분은 붉은색, 아랫부분은 금색이다.

보현보살은 왼쪽 팔이 노출되어 있으며 배 부근의 옷자락 밑으로 장식적인 꽃무늬 조각이 새겨져 있다.

은적사 석가여래삼존상은 전형적인 석가 삼존불의 형식을 따른 목제 대형 불상으로 확실한 조성시기를 알 수 있어 조선후기의 불상양식을 볼 수 있는 중요한 문화자산이다.

Sakyamuni Buddha Triad of Eunjeoksa Temple

This Buddhist triad enshrined in Daeungjeon Hall of Eunjeoksa Temple was made in 1629 by the monk artisan Sujong. It consists of Sakyamuni, the historical Buddha, in the center flanked by Manjusri (Bodhisattva of Wisdom and Insight) and Samantabhadra (Bodhisattva of Great Conduct). The large wooden statues measure 114 cm in height.

All three figures sit atop pedestals with their legs crossed. They have broad shoulders, well-proportioned bodies, and elaborately expressed folds on their robes. Sakyamuni’s right hand reaches down toward the ground, while his left hand rests on his knee, indicating his defeat of worldly desires and attainment of spiritual enlightenment. The large protuberance on the top of his head is a symbol of his wisdom. The two attendant bodhisattvas wear gold Chinese-style headdresses that are decorated red at the top. They make mirrored gestures, each holding a lotus stem in their outer hand. Manjusri’s robe has long sleeves, while Samantabhadra’s robe has short sleeves.

As a large-scale wooden Sakyamuni Buddha triad with a known date of creation, this triad is an important cultural heritage for understanding the style of Buddhist sculpture in the late period of the Joseon dynasty (1392-1910).

영문 해설 내용

은적사 대웅전에 모셔진 이 삼존상은 1629년 승려 수종이 제작하였다. 석가여래를 중심으로 양옆에 문수보살과 보현보살이 있으며, 높이가 114cm인 대형 불상이다.

세 불상 모두 결가부좌하고 대좌 위에 앉아있으며, 당당한 어깨, 균형 있는 몸, 정교한 옷 주름 등이 표현되어 있다. 석가모니의 오른손은 땅을 향하고 있고 왼손은 무릎 위에 있는데, 이는 부처가 모든 악마를 항복시키고 깨달음을 얻은 순간을 상징한다. 머리에는 부처의 지혜를 상징하는 육계가 있다. 두 보살은 윗부분은 붉은색, 아랫부분은 금색인 중국식 보관을 쓰고 있고, 연꽃 봉오리를 들고 있는 손의 위치가 서로 대칭을 이룬다. 문수보살의 옷은 소매가 긴 반면 보현보살의 옷은 소매가 짧다.

조성 시기를 확실히 알 수 있는 대형 목제 삼존불상으로, 조선 후기의 불상 양식을 볼 수 있는 중요한 문화자산이다.
