감람암포획 현무암분포지는 황록색을 띤 감람암 암편들을 다량으로 함유한 현무암이 분포하는 곳이다. 진촌리 동쪽 해안선을 따라 다량의 현무암이 노출되어 있는 곳으로 세계적으로 보기 드문 곳이다. 이 감람암 파편들은 지구 속 수십 ㎞ 아래에서 만들어진 감람암이 용암이 분출할 때 함께 올라와 만들어졌다. 지하 깊은 곳에서의 마그마 상태와 마그마의 분화 과정을 연구하는 데 대단히 중요한 자료이다. 우리나라에 감람암 포획 현무암이 분포하는 곳은 경기도 전곡, 평택, 강원도 철원 일대, 울릉도, 제주도 등 에 국한되어 있다.

Peridotite Xenolith-Bearing Basalt in Jinchon-ri, Baengnyeongdo Island, Ongjin
This beach features many large basalt rocks that contain high amounts of yellowish-green peridotite xenolith. In Korea, peridotite xenolith-bearing basalt is only found in a few locations, namely Jeongok, Pyeongtaek, Cheorwon, Ulleungdo Island, Jejudo Island, and here in Jinchon-ri on Baengnyeongdo Island.
Peridotite xenolith is formed tens of kilometers underground and is only brought to the earth's surface during volcanic eruptions. It is therefore rare to find such a high number of peridotite xenolith-bearing basalt rocks above ground as found at this site. Therefore, this site is a valuable resource in the study of the geological properties of magma and the magmatic eruption process.

이곳은 황록색을 띤 감람암 암편들을 다량으로 함유한 현무암이 분포하는 곳이다. 한국에서 감람암포획 현무암이 분포하는 곳은 경기도 전곡, 평택, 강원도 철원, 울릉도, 제주도 등에 국한되어 있다.
