Song Hyeon-su (?-1457) was the father-in-law of King Danjong (r. 1452-1455) of the Joseon Dynasty. Danjong ascended to the throne at the young age of only 12, but lost the throne by his uncle, who later became King Sejo (r. 1455-1468). During this political turmoil, Song Hyeon-su attempted to restore Danjong to the throne but failed to be executed. In 1698, he was reinstated by a royal order, and his shrine was first built in 1791, before being moved to the current location in 1928. In Korean Confucian tradition, a spirit tablet is generally held in a shrine only for four generations. However, a shrine in perpetuity houses a spirit tablet permanently in recognition of exceptional deeds and virtue of the deceased.
