화성부 관청의 모든 사무를 보는 하급 관리들의 근무처이다. 1789년(정조 13) 수원읍을 팔달산 아래로 옮기며 처음에는 동헌인 장남헌 동쪽에 지었다. 화성 축성이 마무리되면서 비장청으로 내주고 그 동쪽에다 마련했다. 행궁 안의 건물들이 대개 10칸 전후 규모인데 비해 서리청은 22칸에 달한다. 그만큼 화성부의 많은 관리들이 여러 업무를 살폈음을 보여준다.

국문 수정

서리청은 화성유수부 관청의 여러 사무를 담당하는 하급 관리들이 근무하는 건물이다. 정조 13년(1789) 수원읍을 옮길 당시에는 장남헌 동쪽에 서리청을 지었다. 화성 축성이 마무리되면서 서리청의 건물을 비장청으로 사용하고, 그 동쪽에 있던 금도청(禁盜廳)을 고쳐서 서리청으로 사용했다. 행궁 안의 건물들이 보통 10칸 내외 규모인데 비해 서리청은 22칸에 달한다.

Seoricheong (Local Clerks' Office)

Seoricheong was the office of seori, clerks of the local government office. As there was a large number of local clerks, this office is the largest in this temporary palace. To the south of this office is a warehouse where official documents were kept. In addition, on the southern wall, there is a separate entrance leading to the kitchen, to allow the clerks to come in and out without passing through the main gate. During the royal banquet celebrating the 60th birthday of King Jeongjo’s mother, this building was used as a kitchen.

This building was the office of clerks (seori) of the local government office. A large number of people worked in this office. To the south of this office is a warehouse where official documents were kept. During the royal banquet celebrating the 60th birthday of King Jeongjo’s mother, this building was used as a kitchen.

영문 해설 내용

서리청은 관청의 제반 사무를 보는 하급관리인 서리가 근무하던 건물이다. 서리의 인원이 많고 해야 할 업무도 많았기 때문에, 서리청은 행궁 내에서 규모가 가장 크다. 서리청 마당의 남쪽에는 문서를 보관하던 창고가 마련되어 있다. 또한 남쪽 담장에는 별주 쪽으로 나가는 별도의 출입문을 두어 정문을 통과하지 않고도 드나들 수 있도록 했다. 1795년 정조 어머니의 회갑연 때에는 수라간으로 사용하기도 했다.
