산청 수선사 대반야바라밀다경은 반야부*의 여러 경전들을 모아놓은 책이다. 당나라의 승려 현장이 번역한 『대반야바라밀경』을 고려 시대에 대장도감**에서 목판으로 만들어 책을 출간하였다.
책의 뒤쪽에는 ‘무술세고려국대장도감봉칙조조(戊戌歲高麗國大藏都監奉勅雕造)’라 쓰여있어 고려 고종 25년(1238) 대장도감에서 제작하였음을 알 수 있다. 다만 이 책은 고려 후기에 주로 사용한 병풍과 같이 접는 형태로, 차례에는 수정본에서 확인되는 특징인 ‘장(張)’의 표시가 남아있어 고려 후기 ~ 조선 전기에 다시 찍어낸 것으로 추정된다.

The Maha Prajnaparamita Sutra (“Perfection of Transcendental Wisdom”) is an important Buddhist scripture that describes the path to achieving enlightenment through the practice of wisdom. The classical Chinese version of the sutra was translated from Sanskrit by the Chinese monk Xuanzang (602-664) during the Tang dynasty.
