1795년(정조 19) 행궁을 증축하며 정문인 신풍루 좌우에 군영을 지었는데 남쪽은 남영, 북쪽은 북영을 주둔시켰다. 『화성성역의궤』에는 두 군영의 건물을 동일하다고 적었으나 「도설」은 차이를 보인다. 남군영은 일자형인데 비해, 북군영은 ㄷ자형으로 그린 것이다. 또 『정리의궤』의 「행궁전도」는 ㄱ자형으로 그렸다. 지금은 발굴조사 뒤에 ㄱ자형으로 복원해 놓아서 자료마다 일치하지 않은 점이 있다.

국문 수정

정조 19년(1795) 화성행궁을 증축하며 정문인 신풍루 좌우에 군영을 지었는데 남쪽은 남군영, 북쪽은 북군영이라고 부른다. 󰡔화성성역의궤󰡕에는 두 군영의 건물이 동일하다고 기록되어 있으나 ｢행궁전도｣ 그림을 보면 남군영은 일자형이고, 북군영은 ㄷ자형이다. 반면 󰡔정리의궤󰡕의 ｢행궁전도｣는 북군영이 ㄱ자형으로 그려져 있다. 2002년 복원 시 발굴조사 결과를 바탕으로 ㄱ자형으로 복원했다.

Northern Garrison

This is one of the two military garrisons in this temporary palace, where the royal guard of King Jeongjo was stationed. In 1785, the king reorganized the military system and established the royal guard. A unit of this royal guard was deployed in Hwaseong Fortress in 1793, and a garrison building was built on each side of Sinpungnu, the main gate of the temporary palace. During the expansion of the palace in 1794, each garrison building was enclosed with roofed walls. King Jeongjo established the royal guard to symbolize his powerful royal authority, but the royal guard was disbanded in 1802, two years after the king’s death.
