보은 서원리 소나무는 높이 15m, 가슴 높이의 줄기 둘레는 4.7m이며, 나무 나이는 정이품송과 같이 600살 정도로 추정된다. 인근의 정이품송과 약 7km 떨어져 있다.
이 나무는 줄기가 지상 0.7m 높이에서 두 갈래로 갈라져 있다. 곧게 뻗은 정이품송과 달리 이 나무는 밑에서 두 갈래로 갈라져 있고, 가지가 서로 얽혀 나무 모양이 아기자기하다. 이러한 모습 때문에 정이품송과 부부 사이라고 하여 ‘정부인 소나무’라고 부른다.
마을 사람들은 매년 음력 정월 초이튿날에 이 서낭나무* 아래에서 마을의 평안을 기원하는 제사를 지내고 있다.

This pine tree is about 15 m tall, with a trunk circumference of 4.7 m at breast height, and is estimated to be around 600 years old. The local residents regard it as a guardian of the community and hold an annual ritual beneath the tree on the second day of the first lunar month, praying for the village’s well-being.
About 7 km from this tree stands another pine tree designated as a Natural Monument, known as Jeongipumsong (“Senior Second Rank Pine”). The two trees are regarded as a pair, symbolizing husband and wife. Unlike the “husband” tree, which stands straight, this “wife” tree has a trunk that splits into two at about 0.7 m above the ground, with intertwined branches that give it a graceful and intricate form.
