국문

보은 법주사 석조희견보살입상은 전체 높이가 213cm인 석조 보살상으로, 크게 신체, 공양물, 대좌의 세 부분으로 구성되어 있다. 자연 암반으로 이루어진 지대석 위에 네모반듯한 받침돌을 놓고, 그 위에 중심부에 해당하는 몸통을 세워 고정하였다.

얼굴은 마멸이 심하여 자세히 볼 수 없으며, 잘록하고 유연한 허리와 대조적으로 향로를 받쳐 든 양팔은 힘겨운 듯한 모습을 꽤 사실적으로 표현하였다. 옷은 속옷 위에 가사를 걸쳤으며, 띠 매듭과 옷자락이 무릎 위에서 투박하게 처리되었다.

향로를 받쳐 든 두 팔의 모습이나 가슴 부위의 사실적 표현과 함께 뒷면의 옷 표현 기법이 절묘하다. 전체적인 조형 수법이 같은 경내에 있는 쌍사자석등과 비슷하여, 이 보살상 역시 같은 시기인 720년 전후의 작품으로 추정하고 있다.

This bodhisattva statue is presumed to have been made in the early 8th century. It stands 213 cm in height and consists of a natural rock base, a square pedestal, the bodhisattva figure, and a bowl-shaped incense burner. The statue depicts a bodhisattva offering incense to the Buddha.

The face is heavily weathered and difficult to discern in detail. In contrast to the slender and supple waist, the two arms supporting the incense burner are rendered with a sense of strain in a realistic manner. The figure wears an outer robe over an inner garment, and the belt knot and drapery folds above the knees are expressed in a somewhat simple and unrefined style. The realistic depiction of the arms and chest, together with the exquisite rendering of the drapery on the back, creates a harmonious overall composition.

이 보살상은 8세기 전반에 만들어진 것으로 추정된다. 전체 높이는 213cm 이며, 자연 암반으로 된 지대석, 네모난 받침돌, 보살상, 발우 모양의 향로로 이루어져 있다. 이는 부처님께 향을 공양 올리는 모습을 표현한 것이다.
