백용성조사 기념관 안에는 2014년 등록문화재로 지정된 백용성조사의 저서 조선글화엄경, 선한역대방광불화엄경, 신역대장경, 조선어능엄경이 보관되고 있다. 이 서적들은 일제강점기 백용성 스님이 한글로 번역한 불교 경전들이다. 백용성 스님은 불교계를 대표하는 독립운동가였으며, 여러 불교 경전들을 한글로 번역하여 불교의 대중화에 공헌하였다. 백용성역 조선글화엄경, 선한역대방광불화엄경, 신역대장경, 조선어능엄경은 근대기 한국 불교의 대중화와 포교 방법의 변화를 보여주는 자료로서 종교사적 가치가 높다. 또한 당시 한글을 연구하는데 있어 중요한 자료이다.

Buddhist Scriptures Translated by Baek Yong-seong

These books are Buddhist scriptures translated from Classical Chinese into Korean by Baek Yong-seong (1864-1940), a monk and independence activist during the Japanese colonial period (1910-1945). They include the Shurangama Sutra (Sutra of the Heroic One), the Vajracchedika prajnaparamita Sutra (The Diamond Sutra), and two versions of the Avatamsaka Sutra (Flower Garland Sutra) - one in Korean and one in both Korean and Classical Chinese.

Baek was one of the eminent leaders of Korean Buddhism at the time, and was named one of the 33 National Representatives of the 1919 March First Independence Movement.

The translations of these Buddhist scriptures contributed to the popularization of Buddhism and are also valuable resources in the study of Korean literature at that time.

영문 해설 내용

이 책들은 일제강점기 승려이자 독립운동가였던 백용성(1864-1940)이 한글로 번역한 불교 경전이다. 능엄경, 금강경을 비롯하여, 두 버전의 화엄경(한글로 번역한 것과 한글 번역과 한문 원문을 함께 수록한 것)을 포함한다.

백용성은 한국 불교계의 지도자로서 3.1운동 당시 민족대표 33인 중 하나였다.

이와 같이 한글로 번역된 불교 경전은 불교의 대중화에 공헌하였으며, 당시 한글을 연구하는 데 있어서도 중요한 자료이다.
