문파 최준(汶坡 崔浚, 1884∼1970) 선생은 이른바 9대 진사 12대 만석의 마지막 부자로 이곳 교촌에서 태어났다.
선생은 영남의 대지주(大地主)로 1915년 조직된 조선국권회복단(朝鮮國權回復團)과 대한광복회(大韓光復會)에 거액의 자금을 제공하여 독립운동단체의 활동을 지원하였다. 대한광복회의 재무를 맡아 항일투쟁을 전개하다 일본 헌병대에 체포되어 심한 옥고(獄苦)를 치렀다. 백산상회(白山商會)를 설립하여 비밀리에 자금을 제공하였으며. 대한민국임시정부에도 거액의 군자금을 보내는 등 많은 공적을 남겼다.
민족문화사업에도 관심을 기울여, 1920년 경주고적보존회(慶州古蹟保存會)를 설립하고 1932년 정인보선생 등과 함께 『동경통지(東京通志)』를 편찬하는 등, 신라문화의 유산을 지키고 알리는데 크게 기여하였다.
해방 직후에 모든 재산을 기증하여 계림대학과 대구대학을 설립하였는데, 이는 영남대학교의 전신이다. 정부는 1990년 선생의 공적을 기려 건국훈장 애족장을 추서하였다.

Birthplace of Independence Activist Choe Jun
This is the birthplace of Choe Jun (1884-1970), a businessman, philanthropist, and independence activist during the Japanese colonial period (1910-1945).
A wealthy landowner, Choe donated significant funds to independence movement organizations such as the Joseon Sovereignty Restoration Club and the Great Korean Liberation Association, established in 1915. While managing the finances of the Great Korean Liberation Association, he was arrested by the Japanese police and tortured in prison. He later established the Baeksan (“White Mountain”) Company, through which he secretly gathered funds. He also sent a small fortune to the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea in Shanghai.
Choe took interest in the study and promotion of Korean history and culture, and so, in 1920, he established the Gyeongju Historical Preservation Association. He also safeguarded and disseminated information about Silla culture, such as through the publication of works such as the Comprehensive History of Gyeongju (Donggyeong tongji), which he compiled in 1932 together with the scholar Jeong In-bo (1893-1950) and others.
Immediately after Korea regained independence, Choe donated his entire wealth to establish Gyerim University and Daegu University, which is the predecessor of Yeungnam University. In 1990, he was posthumously bestowed with an Order of Merit for National Foundation.
