Daemokjang refers to the design and construction of large-scale traditional wooden structures such as royal palaces, Buddhist temples, and administrative offices, as well as the master artisans who are in charge of the entire design and construction process.

Kim Beom-sik (1942- ) is a master of traditional Korean architecture and is designated as the holder of Gyeongsangbuk-do Intangible Cultural Heritage No. 37. He learned carpentry from a young age, as his father was an artisan of small-scale wooden structures such as traditional furniture. In 1964, he began to learn about large-scale traditional wooden architecture and its building techniques from two masters, namely Kim Deok-hui and his son Kim Yun-won.

The first project in which Kim Beom-sik participated was the construction of a museum in Jikjisa Temple in 1964, which was led by Kim Deok-hui. After that, through extensive training and on-site experience, he inherited various techniques for using architectural tools, making architectural drawings, and handling wooden materials, etc. In 1972, he conducted his first project as a supervisor at the construction of Yulsanseowon Confucian Academy, and has since carried out about 200 projects mainly in the Gyeongsangbuk-do area.
