해설문

이곳의 비는 조선시대 선정을 펼친 나주목사를 기리기 위해 재임 기간이나 임기 후에 세워진 것이다. 총 27기 중 25기가 선정비(善政碑)이고, 이 밖에 「사마교비 駟馬橋碑」와 「금성토평비 錦城討平碑」 는 나주의 중요한 역사적 사건을 기록하고 있어 전라남도 문화유산으로 지정 보호되고 있다.

원래 나주읍성 사대문 안에 흩어져 있던 것을 일제강점기 나주 군청으로 사용되던 금성관 경내로 모아 놓았다가 2019년 이곳으로 옮겼다.

Steles of Geumseonggwan Guesthouse

These 27 steles were originally scattered within the four main gates of Najueupseong Walled Town and were relocated to this site in 2019. Of these, 25 were erected during or after the magistrates’ terms of office to honor those recognized for their exemplary governance during the Joseon period (1392-1910). The remaining two steles record later historical events. One was erected in 1653 to commemorate the repair of Samagyo Bridge during the Joseon period. The other was set up in 1895 to commemorate the defense of Najuseong Fortress by government forces against the peasant army during the Donghak Peasant Revolution of 1894.

영문 해설 내용

이 27기의 비석은 원래 나주읍성 사대문 안에 흩어져 있던 것을 2019년에 이곳으로 옮긴 것이다. 이 중 25기는 조선시대 선정을 펼친 나주목사들을 기리기 위해 재임 기간 중 혹은 이후에 세워졌다. 나머지 2기는 나중의 중요한 역사적 사건을 기록한 것이다. 하나는 조선시대에 사마교를 수리한 것을 기념하기 위해 1653년에 세웠고, 다른 하나는 1894년 동학농민운동 당시 관군이 동학군과 싸워 나주성을 지킨 것을 기념하기 위해 1895년에 세웠다.
