금당지는 동·서 석탑지 사이 가운데에서 북쪽으로 약 8.2m 떨어진 지점에 있다. 발굴조사 결과, 금당은 정면 5칸, 측면 5칸의 건물로, 동서 길이 19.3m, 남북 길이 15.7m에 이르는 규모였던 것으로 밝혀졌다. 현재 기둥을 받쳤던 초석과 불단(佛壇) 시설 등은 모두 없어진 상태이며, 초석의 기초 시설인 적심과 기단 부재인 장대석 일부가 남아있다.

Main Worship Hall Site

This is the site of the temple’s main worship hall, which would have enshrined a Buddha statue. It is located about 8.2 m to the north of the temple’s two stone pagoda sites. Archaeological excavations revealed that the main worship hall building measured five bays in width by five bays in depth, or 19.3 m from east to west and 15.7 m from north to south. Although no pillar base stones nor Buddhist altar facilities remain, remains of post holes and platform stones have been identified.

이곳은 불상을 모신 중심 건물인 금당이 있던 자리이다. 인왕동사지의 동·서 석탑지에서 북쪽으로 약 8.2m 떨어진 지점에 있다. 발굴조사 결과, 금당은 정면 5칸, 측면 5칸의 건물로, 동서 길이 19.3m, 남북 길이 15.7m에 이르는 규모였던 것으로 밝혀졌다. 기둥을 받쳤던 초석과 불단(佛壇) 시설 등은 모두 없어진 상태이며, 초석의 기초 시설인 적심과 기단 부재인 장대석 일부가 남아있다.
