해설문

국문

금융조합은 대한제국 때에 설립한 서민금융기관이다. 1907년에 지방금융조합 규칙에 따라 설립하였으며, 1956년에 농업은행(지금의 농업협동조합)이 설립될 때까지 서민층의 금융 업무를 맡아왔다.

문경 금융조합사택은 1945년에 지은 비교적 규모가 작은 일본식 주택이다. 한국 전통의 우진각지붕을 제외하고 안방에 도코노마(床の間)로 불리는 수납장이 있고, 현관을 뒤쪽에 두는 등 일본식(和式) 주택의 전형적인 모습을 보여주고 있다. 부분적으로 고쳐서 일부는 형태가 바뀌었으나 내부·외부가 잘 보존되어 일제강점기 후반 사택 연구에 귀중한 자료로 평가받고 있다.

근대문화유산 활용 사업으로 내부의 구조를 변경하여 2019년부터‘산양카페’로 운영하고 있다.

영문

Former Residence of Mungyeong Financial Association

This building was built in 1945 as the residence of the head of the Mungyeong Financial Association at the very end of the Japanese colonial period (1910-1945).

The Financial Association was a financial institution established in 1907 to support the working class such as farmers, owners of small businesses, and small-scale manufacturers. It operated until 1956 when it became the Agricultural Bank, which then later became the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation, i.e. NongHyup Bank.

This building is a small Japanese-style house. The roof was laid with Korean tiles, but the interior shows typical features of Japanese houses. For example, there is a Japanese-style alcove in master bedroom, called tokonoma, for displaying art, and the main entrance is at the back of the building, instead of the front.

In 2019, after a redesign of the interior, the building was turned into a cafe called "Byeotdeuneunsan," which means "a mountain upon which the sun shines." The cafe is also a cultural space, where artists display and sell their work and fans of literature gather to discuss books.

영문 해설 내용

이 건물은 1945년 문경금융조합의 사택으로 지어진 건물이다.

금융조합은 농민과 지방의 소상공업자 등 서민층을 지원하기 위해 1907년에 설립된 금융기관이다. 1956년에 농업은행(지금의 농업협동조합)이 설립될 때까지 운영되었다.

이 건물은 규모가 작은 일본식 주택이다. 지붕은 한국 전통 방식으로 만들었으나, 안방에 도코노마라고 하는 일본식 수납장이 있고, 현관을 뒤쪽에 두는 등 일본식 주택의 전형적인 모습을 보여준다.

내부의 구조를 변경하여, 2019년부터는 ‘볕드는 산’이라는 이름의 카페로 운영하고 있다. 현지 예술가들의 작품을 전시, 판매하기도 하고 독서모임 등의 문화살롱을 운영하기도 한다.
