이 숲은 우리나라에서 보기 드물게 평지에 있는 언덕에 형성된 자연림 군락이다. 숲에는 이팝나무가 주종을 이루며, 굴참나무, 말채나무, 느티나무, 참느릅나무 등의 낙엽수와 활엽수가 섞여 자라고 있다. 평지에 조성된 숲들은 바람을 막거나 홍수를 방지하는 목적으로 인위적으로 조성된 것들이 대부분인 것에 비해, 이 숲은 자연 숲으로서 과거 경산 지역의 자연환경과 식생을 보여 주는 중요한 단서가 된다.
이 숲에는 자인 지역에서 전승되는 한장군 설화와 관련된 한장군의 무덤, 한장군의 사당(진충묘), 경산자인단오제 전수회관 등이 있다. 또한 조선 시대 자인현 관아의 본관이었던 시중당과 경상도 관찰사, 자인 현감 등의 선정비 및 공덕비가 여럿 있다. 이런 점에서 이 숲은 자인 지역을 대표하는 자연유산이자 문화유산이라고 할 수 있다.

Gyejeongsup Forest in Jain, Gyeongsan
Gyejeongsup Forest, located on a low hill surrounded by the plains of Jain-myeon Township, comprises a mix of deciduous and broadleaf trees, including primarily retusa fringe trees, as well as cork oaks, Walter’s dogwoods, saw-leaf zelkovas, and lacebark elms. As most flatland forests in Korea are planted artificially to block winds or prevent floods—with naturally formed forests being predominately found on mountainsides—this rare example of a natural flatland forest provides important clues about the natural environment and vegetation of the Gyeongsan area.
The forest is also home to a number of Gyeongsan’s representative cultural heritages, including the tomb and shrine of the local folk hero General Han, who is said to have defended the area from Japanese invaders. The Center of Preservation of the Dano Festival of Jain, an event dedicated to General Han, is also located here. Other notable heritages include those related to the local government office of the Joseon period (1392-1910), including the main hall, named Sijungdang, and a collection of steles commemorating the benevolent governance and achievements of provincial governors and local magistrates.
