해설문

국문

강경중앙초등학교는 논산에서 가장 먼저 세워진 학교로, 졸업생 기수로는 충남에서 가장 오래되었다. 1905년 4월 2일에 2년제 사립학교인 보명학교로 개교하였고, 1907년 4년제 강경공립보통학교로 변경하였다. 이후 1938년 강경중정공립심상소학교, 1941년 강경중정공립국민학교, 1946년 강경제일공립초등학교에서 강경제일초등학교, 1949년 강경중앙국민학교, 1996년 강경중앙초등학교로 수차례 교명이 변경되면서 오늘날에 이르렀다.

강당은 1937년 6월 30일 준공된 지상 1층의 건물이다. 이 강당은 강경공립보통학교 개교 30주년을 기념으로 강경공립보통학교 후원회에서 기증한 것으로 콘크리트 기반 위에 붉은 벽돌을 사용하여 지었고, 외벽 둘레에는 콘크리트로 된 흰색 띠를 둘러 두 층 높이로 나누고, 모서리에는 벽돌 내어쌓기 방식으로 띠를 둘렀다. 이 강당 건물은 당시 강당 건축의 전형적인 모습을 보여주며, 건물에 두른 흰색띠는 입면의 단조로움을 해소해 단아한 멋을 보여주고 있다.

Auditorium of Jungang Elementary School, Ganggyeong

This auditorium was constructed in 1937 to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the foundation of Ganggyeong Jungang Elementary School (then known as Ganggyeong Public Common School). It is located to the right of the school’s main building.

In 1905, Ganggyeong Jungang Elementary School was founded as Bomyeong School, a two-year private school. Established with the support of local community leaders and merchants, Bomyeong School was the first modern educational institution in the Nonsan area. In 1907, Bomyeong School was remodeled into the four-year Ganggyeong Public Common School. The name of the school was changed several times afterward, and its current name was adopted in 1996.

In 1950, the main building burnt down during the Korean War (1950-1953), but the auditorium was spared from the fire. The main building was newly constructed in 1955.

The auditorium is a single-story red brick building constructed atop a concrete foundation with a wooden floor. The overall layout is simple and is typical of school auditoriums of the time. The building has many tall windows to allow light to shine into the building as well as decorative exterior elements such as bands of white concrete and a protruding brick pattern on the corners.

영문 해설 내용

이 건물은 강경중앙초등학교의 전신인 강경공립보통학교의 개교 30주년을 기념하여 1937년에 준공한 강당이다. 강당은 교사 오른쪽에 위치하고 있다.

강경중앙초등학교는 1905년 2년제 사립학교인 보명학교로 개교하였다. 보명학교는 지역 유지와 상인들의 후원으로 설립된 논산 지역 최초의 근대식 교육기관이었다. 보명학교는 1907년 4년제 강경공립보통학교로 변경되었고, 이후 몇 차례 교명이 바뀌었으며, 1996년 지금의 이름으로 개칭되었다.

1950년 한국전쟁으로 학교 교사가 전소하였지만, 강당은 피해를 입지 않았다. 현재의 교사는 1955년에 신축하였다.

강당은 지상 1층 건물로, 콘크리트 기단 위에 붉은 벽돌을 사용하여 지었고, 내부에는 마루를 깔았다. 전체적으로 단순한 형태이고, 당시 강당 건축의 전형적인 모습을 보여준다. 창을 많이 내어 채광을 용이하게 했고, 외벽 둘레에 콘크리트로 된 흰 띠를 두르고 모서리에는 벽돌 내어쌓기로 마감하여 단조로움을 해소하였다.
