Narrative

Gwangju Bus 1187 is a branch line that connects the city center of Gwangju with Wonhyosa Temple on Mudeungsan Mountain. The route number was chosen from the elevation of Cheonwangbong Peak, symbolically embedding the mountain that represents the city into everyday transportation.

Departing from Deokheung-dong, the bus passes through key urban landmarks such as Gwangju Shinsegae Department Store, Geumnamno 4(sa)-ga Station, and the National Asian Culture Center, tracing the heart of the city. It then continues through Sansu Market and Sansu Five-way Intersection, linking scenes of daily life. As the route approaches its terminus, the road gradually gives way to forested slopes, passing Chungjangsa Shrine before reaching Wonhyosa Temple. Due to its ascent and descent of the mountain, the route features many sharp curves, and the stretch of road from Sansu Five-way Intersection toward Mudeungsan Mountain is also known as a scenic drive, offering a refreshing escape from the dense urban core.
