Jisan-dong: A Place to Enjoy Food and Culture on Your Journey to Nature

The Jisan-dong neighborhood is located on the western foot of Mudeungsan Mountain, in the easternmost part of Gwangju. The area, which serves as a gateway to the mountain, has an abundance of cafes and restaurants and has come to features specialty streets such as Mudeungsan Barley Rice Street and the Mudeungsan Cafe Village. These neighborhood has numerous trendy cafes that visitors can choose from and is home to many restaurants specializing in barley rice (boribap), a popular Korean dish that has made the list of both Gwangju's five delicacies and seven delicacies. Nearby is the Oh Ji-ho Memorial Hall, which honors the renowned painter, Oh Ji-ho (1905-1982), who founded the Gwangju Fine Art Research Society in 1948. Further up the mountain is the Mudeungsan Observatory, which has a cafe from which the scenic views can be enjoyed.
