Gwangju Bus 228: The Road of Democratic Memory

Narrative

Gwangju Bus 228 is named in commemoration of the February 28 Democratic Movement in Daegu. Beginning in 2009, exchanges and cooperation between Gwangju Metropolitan City and Daegu Metropolitan City were strengthened through what is known as the Dalbit Alliance. In 2019, the existing Route 151 was renamed Route 228 and began operating under its current designation.

The route runs through Chilseong Village, Gwangju Bus Terminal, Daein Market, and Chosun University Hospital, extending onward to Hwasun-gun County. Following the contours of everyday life in Gwangju, Bus 228 quietly recalls the memory of Korea’s democratic movement within the city’s present-day landscape.
