경성전 현판

Definition

‘경성(慶成)’은 ‘완성함을 기뻐한다’는 뜻이다. ‘경(慶)’은 ‘기뻐하다’,‘성(成)’은 ‘완성한다’는 뜻이다. 서쪽이 완성, 결실을 의미하므로 이와 같이 지었다. 경성전은 정도전이 작명하였으며, 강녕전 동쪽에 있는 연생전과 짝을 이룬다. 정도전은 천지가 만물을 낳고 이루는 것을 본받아 정령을 밝히라는 의미로 이 건물의 이름을 지었다고 하였다. 정도전의 풀이는 앞의 연생전에 나온다
