천추전 현판

Definition

‘천추(千秋)’란 ‘천 년의 가을’이란 뜻이다. ‘천(千)’은 오래고 영원하다는 의미를 가지며, 추(秋)는 오행 상 서쪽을 가리킨다. 여기에는 국가 기틀이 오랜 동안 지속되기를 바라는 마음이 담겨 있다. 사정전 동쪽에 있는 만춘전과 상대하여 이름을 지었다. 현판은 경복궁을 중건할 때 당시 이조참의로 있던 정범조(鄭範朝,1833~1898년)가 썼다. 갑오개혁 이후 새로이 설치된 관직들을 두루 맡았으며 훗날 좌의정, 우의정을 여러 차례 지내기도 한 인물이다.
