만춘전 현판

Definition

‘만춘(萬春)’은 ‘만년의 봄’이다. ‘만(萬)’은 오래고 영원하다는 의미를 가지며, ‘춘(春)’은 오행에서 동쪽을 가리킨다. 오랜 시간 국가가 지속되기를 바라는 마음이 담겨 있다. 천추전과 상대하여 이름을 지었다.

현판은 경복궁을 중건할 때 당시 좌승지이던 송희정(宋熙正, 1824~?년)이 썼다. 그는 이 후 신미양요(1871년)가 일어났을 때 의주부사로 사건의 수습을 맡기도 했다.
