협길당 현판

Definition

‘협길(協吉)’은 ‘함께 복을 누린다’는 뜻이다. ‘협(協)’은 ‘함께’, ‘길(吉)’은 ‘복’을 의미한다. 현판은 명나라 말기의 서예가 동기창(董其昌, 1555~1636년)의 글씨이다. ‘吉(길)’자의 윗 부분이 표준 서체는 ‘士(사)’이지만 여기서는 ‘土(토)’의 형태를 취했는데, 서법에서 흔히 나타나는 속체이다. ‘堂(당)’에서 ‘土(토)’ 위에 점을 더한 것도 마찬가지다.
