Management in Goryeo Dynasty, The stage of the Gaeseong merchant - Byeongnando

The Gaeseong merchant of the Goryeo Dynasty traded with different foreign countries through Byeongnando. It is also called 'Yeseong Port' and government officers were also hosted in the Byeongnando.[1]

Management of the Gaeseong merchant in Goryeo Dynasty

During the Goryeo Dynasty, The trade was flourished by Gaeseong merchants beacuse of the frequent public and private trade with foreign merchantsas through 'Yeseonggang international port' that based in Byrullando entrance.

Especially, ginseng was one of the highest traded product. Ginseng has cultivated in the Korean peninsula since the Three Kingdoms era. During the unification of the Later three Kingdoms the ginseng that was grown on the Korean peninsula, was commonly called as Korean ginseng.

Gyeongsang province is the representative cultivation area of Korean ginseng, and since the middle of Goryeo period, Korean ginseng has continued to become a famous ginseng. 개성지역이 고려 인삼의 대표적인 재배지로서 고려 중기 이후 고려 인삼의 명맥을 이어가면서 개성 고려 인삼이 유명하게 되었다.

Advantage of Location

Byeokran-do is the entrance to Gaegyeong, the capital of Goryeo. It is also easy to trade and is connected to the sea route because it is located at the mouth of Yeseonggang River. The depth of the water allowed even a large ship to come and go.
