Yeonghoru Pavilion

Yeonghoru was considered to be one of the three most representative pavilions in the Gyeongsang-do area, along with Chokseongnu Pavilion in Jinju and Yeongnamnu Pavilion in Miryang. The exact construction period of this pavilion is unknown.

According to a local historical record, King Gongmin (r. 1351-1374) of the Goryeo Dynasty stayed here while retreating from the Red Turbans in 1361. After the king went back to the royal capital, he bestowed a plaque bearing the name of this pavilion.

This pavilion has been damaged and restored several times due to flood, but was finally destroyed by the great flood of 1934. The current building was reconstructed in 1970 on the opposite side of the river from its original location, and a monument was erected to the north of the pavilion’s original site in 1992.
