The exact construction period of this hall is uncertain, but it is presumed to be Korea’s oldest extant wooden building, built around the late 12th to early 13th century. Generally, roofs of traditional Korean wooden buildings were repaired 100 to 200 years after the original construction, and a historical record discovered in this hall says the gable roof of this building was first repaired in 1363. The building was repaired again in 1625 and 1809 and underwent extensive repairs in 1972. The center door and the wooden windows were restored during the repair in 1972.
